Well, it’s that time of year again… a time we always look forward to, and for good reason! Another year down and the hard work and stunning talent put forth by our cherished experts pays off in recognition by one of our favorite magazines. The JWH Team has officially been announced as finalists for the 12th annual Westchester Home Design Awards 2023.
Every year around this time, Westchester Home magazine “celebrates Westchester’s best interior designers, architects, and building professionals.” For the past 8 years, JWH has proudly been nominated for at least two categories, that focus on exquisite form and innovative function, showcasing the best of the best in interior design. On May 25, 2023, Westchester Home named the JWH Team as finalists for the Best Whole Home Design Award and Best Use of New Trend Award.

A young family in Rye, NY, had recently bought their dream home, a colonial-style house from the 1960s. However, their love for the traditional exterior did not extend to the interior. This home’s interior desperately needed an update. So, our experts got to work, ultimately adjusting every interior space without ever changing the exterior.
The old house was littered with dark and cramped spaces. To optimize both light and the overall flow of each space, we started by opening them up. This would widen their form and function. In our loving update of the living room, the soft pastels in both the light fixture above and the furniture below make for a soothing and simple elegance. From the basement at the very bottom floor to the guest suite and expanded playroom in the 3rd-floor attic, every space in between was thoughtfully transformed into stunning displays of form and function.

The inspiration behind this beautiful bathroom renovation was birthed from a high demand for furniture-quality rift white oak. This factor fueled the palette for this design. Every feature in this bathroom works together for a single harmonized aesthetic experience.
This bathroom showcases an ideal example of mixing metals. The satin brass plumbing and electrical fixtures provide a clean contrast with the oil-rubbed bronze of both hardware and mirrors. Another graphic contrast is in the shower, where a marble mosaic floor mesmerizes the mind. Maximum durability is a promise with the porcelain herringbone tiles on the floor, large format tiles on the walls, and the white quartz slabs on the countertops.
The corner windows of the space host a luxurious jacuzzi tub, its freestanding faucet make for a dramatic focal point. Next to the tub, we opened up the once-dark enclosed shower. We did this by implementing two walls of glass, a bench seat addition, and two niches to optimize function. For the large toilet room, a separate bidet combined with the function of a Toto Washlet maximizes storage with additional custom cabinetry crafted from rift oak. Overall, this bathroom makeover lives on as a functional and stunning space.
